Everybody Loves Cali Hendrix

Hendrix is a name to live up to! Everybody loves Hendrix, and Chicago got its very own. Far different from a electric guitar wielding rock legend, but she puts some soul into her work just as the OG. Cali Hendrix has been releasing music as early as 2018, since then she has racked up a few singles, couple EP’s, and three Albums. Still going strong into 2024

“You Ask Me If I Really Need Love?” – Cali Hendrix

One big difference amongst Cali Hendrix and the others is in the name. The artist is a concept, a work of art, a duality of emotions and perspectives. Cali and Hendrix are two different personalities & points of view. So when you see that she releases an LP titled Everyody Loves Hendrix, who know what you are getting into. Released at the tail end of 2023, Everybody Loves Hendrix is a collection of songs and raps outlining Hendrix soul, through the lens of pain and heartache.

Hendrix does not hold back her words and concerns in her opening track, Love Me Later. Over a slow and moody beat, Hendrix confronts some heavy questions towards someone of significance and, one metaphor sticks out. “You love me like your pistol huh? You use the same finger to pull the trigger huh?” A deep thought that an act of pleasure can be commited by the same hand that can cause pain. Hendrix lets you bask in the thoughts and questions as the beat rides free into the next track.

The following track Bogus, as well as Love Me, kicks some energy into the album. With heavy hitting lyrics and heavy bass respectively. Pressure and It’s Over are a good middle point to the LP as, as its a mix of bass, melody and deeper lyrics, and locks in the whole projects identity. Atlanta turns the energy around into more hopeful and romantic lyrics with the R&B style melody and beat. Giving brightness to the album, and a better understanding of Hendrix emotions. As pain turns to anger, love is always at the root of her soul!

A personal favorite in Same Shoes, reminding us that Hendrix can hand out love as much as she can hand out some attitude. The production too, from the classic sample into a heavy beat changeup was artfully gritty as well. Everybody Loves Hendrix ends in class and confidence with the Long Way, with a bit of a dreamy vibe and and boastful charming lyrics. A great listening experience from start to finish!
