Heavily influenced by Afro American and 90’s culture, he expands on the artistry of a golden age era.

“I gotta keep my word, thats all I got. No lies being told. Can’t take my spot.”

– Blac Samurai

Similarly to artist Childish Gambino, the name Blac Samurai is chosen thru a Wu-Tang name generator. Releasing music as far back as 2018, he has accumulated a collection of EP’s, a few Albums and multiple hit singles, having just recently dropped a brand new album titled Iron Essence. Being heavily influenced by 90’s hip hop culture, his music is more lyrically focused, being complimented by boom bap style beats. Just listening to a few songs into his discography, you can almost feel yourself being reeled into a classic hip hop era. Blac Samurai embodies the spirit of old school like a perfected art form.

Far from an impersonator of a bygone era, Blac Samurai expands on its influences. With many talents at his disposal, he is able to modernize and build upon the culture. Having been a drummer at a young age, and taking a deep interest in poetry, he naturally progressed into the raw nature of rhythmic lyricism. Easily translating his own story into poetry and music, simliarly to  his personal influences, Wu-Tang, Biggie, Nas, Outkast, Roc Marciano and others.

Having indulged in the hip hop golden age era, one cannot overlook the fashion that accompanied the culture. The two are basically synonymous with each other, and Blac Samurai makes a point to expand on both creative expressions. Having been influenced not only by music icons and culture, but also 90’s cinema and television, including but not limited to anime, and shows like Martin, Fresh Prince and New Jack City. All put togehter, with modern asthetic and ideas, you get the Blac Samurai brand, supplementing the old school.

As previously mentioned, Blac Samurai recently dropped album that, upon listening, takes you back to the older influences of hip hop, with a modern take. As if the culture never left, only evolved. Iron Essence is lyrically magnetic, drawing you in with personal stories and complex analogies and metaphors, complimented by boom bap style beat work and production. From start to finish, the album really puts you into your zone.

From the start, Blac Samurai gives you that Chicago street attitude and motivation, with the aforementioned modern twist. A sense of self empowered perseverence, he raps “All I know is how to get, all I know is what it do, all I know is mind yo business, all I know is im built different.” The opener features, rap artist T.E.E with production by Noane.

As mentioned earlier how Blac Samurai some what picked up where the greats left off, and evolved on the lyrical content, his brand of street mentality has some what of a spiritual ambience and motivation to it. Pressed even further in the following track, titled Movin, produced by 4THATHR33. With lines like, “thinkin out the box for most of my life, only time I got in, I turned dark to light,” and “Jealous of your own N****s, on some hoe shit. Lyin on my name for some entertainment, rushing for success, moms tellin me to stay patient.” These lines represent a more elevated sense of critical though surrounding his moves regarding his path to his goals.

His next track Know That, produced by John Savage, has more contemporary vibe to the beat. Picking up some energy, with some more boastful lyricism in the form of confident manifesting, with lines like “turning everything to a sure thing, everybody on my tream work. No more doing test runs, we already did those, already hit those.” The following track really takes you back, with some real coastal vibes on the beat. Say Less, produced by Freddy River Music and Yuho has a real laid back energy with a feature by Big Pat, who just belongs on this beat with his voice and lyricism.
